Dental Assisting Program FAQ

How much does the program cost?
We are offering a first year promotional rate.Tuition is usually $4,000. This promotional rate brings the cost down to $2,500. This tuition covers the 10-week program and includes dental supplies, textbook, scrubs and shirt, and the state application fee.

How long will the course take?
Our unique dental assisting course is just 10 weeks long and includes a two-week clinical rotation and an internship/externship. When you enroll in our program, we will provide you with a course outline and schedule.

What topics are included in the training?
We cover a full range of topics over the course of your training including:
- Radiology theory and practice of intraoral and extraoral X-ray techniques and procedures
- Cements and liners
- Model pouring and trimming
- Impressions
- Crown and bridge instruments and materials, including making temporary restorations
- Office management, including front desk operation, appointments, billing, office management software and OSHA regulations
- Treatment techniques for all areas of dentistry, including preventive care, restorative dentistry, periodontics, oral surgery, endodontics, pediatric dentistry and orthodontics
- Sterilization procedures

What days do we meet? And at what time?
Classes are held once a week with options on Friday or Saturday from 9 am – 6 pm. This schedule allows our students to continue working their current jobs while they complete the program. Additionally, students should plan to attend a 4-hour orientation session prior to the first day of class.

What is the student to instructor ratio?
At capacity, we have one teacher to every eight students.

What certifications will I receive upon completion?
Upon completion, students will receive a Dental Assisting certificate. Additionally, you will receive your Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Is the curriculum online or in person?
The curriculum is blended. About 25 hours of instruction will be available online, and 80 hours will be conducted in person.

What are the requirements for admission into the program?
Students should generally be older than 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and have access to a computer or smartphone. A criminal conviction will need to be explained to the California Board of Dentistry, and all necessary documents submitted for evaluation.

Can I transfer credits from another program?
Contact hours earned at Bakersfield Dental Assisting Academy may not transfer to another educational institution. Contact hours earned at another educational institution may not be accepted by Bakersfield Dental Assisting Academy. You should obtain confirmation that Bakersfield Dental Assisting Academywill accept any contact hours you have earned at another educational institution before you execute an enrollment contract or agreement. You should also contact any educational institutions that you may want to transfer contact hours earned at Bakersfield Dental Assisting Academy to determine if such institutions will accept contact hours earned at Bakersfield Dental Assisting Academy prior to executing an enrollment contract or agreement. The ability to transfer contact hours from Bakersfield Dental Assisting Academy to another educational institution may be very limited. Your contact hours may not transfer and you may have to repeat courses previously taken at Bakersfield Dental Assisting Academy if you enroll in another educational institution. You should never assume that contact hours will transfer to or from any educational institution. It is highly recommended and you are advised to make certain that you know the transfer of credit policy of Bakersfield Dental Assisting Academy and of any other educational institutions you may in the future want to transfer the contact hours earned at Bakersfield Dental Assisting Academy before you execute an enrollment contract or agreement.
